Factory Service Manuals

One of the first things anyone should do is purchase a set of factory service manuals. These have extensive information that Haynes and Chiltons may not have.

How can I get Factory Service Manuals?

General History and Information

http://www.allpar.com/ : A site that has extensive information on all Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge vehicles. Somewhat overwhelming, but a lot of good background information.

http://www.sdml.org/pages/archives.html : The Shelby Dodge Mailing List has three archives of messages posted about our cars. This page tells you about the archives and has links to them. Almost any question about our cars has been asked and answered on this list. Search the archives for the answers you need!

Other Modifications and Improvements

Or, The "How To" Links

Bilstein struts: I did finally get a confirmation for a front strut number from Bilstein.
This strut number fits the G/H/J body cars, 1987 and newer. It is what the
folks at Bilstein classify as a heavy duty strut. It can be purchased through
AutoZone also. The part number is V32-8500. AutoZone sells them for 96.00
each, or somewhat close to that figure. Bilstein themselves quoted me 120.00
each. Unfortunately they do not make one for the rear!
Thanks to Steve Menegon

No Spike boost controller thanks to Dempsey Bowling

Add a manual transmission drain plug.  Great idea, and outstanding how-to information and pictures were once available on Joe O'Conner's site.Way to go Joe O'Conner! I did this mod on my car, and have to say it's a great idea. I can check and change my transmission fluid in a few minutes, without having to reseal the many layers of plates on the end cover. Anyone knowing where to find this site these days, please email me!

Replace the trouble-prone factory turbo oil and coolant line setup!

Buy them and bolt them on:  Lyle Scott Reid will sell you a set, delivered to your door for about 100 bucks
These braided SS lines are awesome; I have his early set, and love them. The new version is even better. You really can't beat this mod, and it should be a no-brainer upgrade when removing the turbo for any reason.

Other Information

The inside information on oil filters. What you DON'T know might hurt your engine. Look at the data, then make up your own mind. Yes, some of the major oil filter makers are upset at this one...

Thinking about changing tire sizes? Use the tire size calculator to determine the right size!
